About counselling

What is counselling?

You may have heard of counselling, therapy, or talking therapy, as something which can help when things get tough. Counselling can take many forms depending on what type of counselling you choose and on what style may best suit you.

During a session you may want to have general discussions with your therapist about your life and how you're feeling, or you might have specific problems or experience which you want to talk through with someone. A therapist can provide an understanding and non-judgemental space to help you explore your thoughts and emotions.

You will usually discuss your reasons for coming to therapy with your therapist when you start working with them, but what you talk about in each session can vary from session to session. There are so many reasons that people come to therapy, but some of the most common reasons include:

  • Stress or anxiety

  • Depression or low mood

  • Bereavement

  • Low confidence or self esteem

  • Relationship issues or breakups

  • Self-exploration or life transitions

If you feel that you would like to talk to someone about these kind of things get in touch for a free 20-minute introduction.
